Adventurers' Mission Statement

Adventurers provides quality out of school care for children in kindergarten through grade six that is safe, inclusive, and empowering. We aim to provide a valuable and often essential service to families, while helping children to develop the resiliency, positive self-image and supportive relationships that will aide in achieving their full potential.

Adventurers' Vision Statement

Adventurers believes that all families have the right to access quality school age care that is provided within their community of choice, and that is flexible and responsive to their changing needs. We envision childcare programs as being communities of caring that are reflective of and responsive to the needs of children, families, and community members. Adventurers aims to bring stakeholders together in collaboration and cooperation, to support the healthy development of Alberta’s children in body, mind, and spirit.

Adventurers' Philosophy / Values

At Adventurers, we see children as unique citizens with individual preferences, interests, and important family connections. Our Educators strive to learn about and connect with every child through careful observation and conversation, and to cultivate strong relationships with families through regular communication and various forms of documentation. We believe in the importance of implementing best practices at all our programs, and in staying abreast of current developments and research on child development. Many of our practices are modelled after and inspired by elements of FLIGHT: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework, as well as Susan Stacey’s Emergent Curriculum in Early Childhood Settings.

At every stage of development, children have a profound desire to connect with others and to learn about the world around them. Having the opportunity to explore and connect is important to a child’s spiritual development and mental well being. We believe that understanding and respecting this aspect of childhood is important to developing places of vitality - environments that are active and energetic, and that invite the participation of all stakeholders.

Sharing connections with family members and other significant adults is also a foundation for the healthy growth and development of children. We put relationships at the centre of everything we do - cultivating our own meaningful connections with children, helping children stay connected to their families and communities, and developing strong educator teams who work together to deliver a quality program every day. As the experts on their own child(ren), we encourage our families to participate in our programs and to provide their feedback on our policies, procedures, and daily practice.

We see the time that children spend in our program as filled with rich possibilities for development and learning. We regularly plan experiences in which children can explore and interact with materials and people to discover things about themselves, about others and about the world around them. Children learn naturally through play that is developmentally appropriate; our program activities and materials are reflective of the varying needs of our children and support children to initiate their own learning experiences, in addition to those initiated by our educators.

Adventurers endorses the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child and believes that all children have the right to protection, participation and provision for survival and development without discrimination regardless of social, cultural, economic background and different capabilities. Children should not be marginalized, especially regarding culture, ability, gender, or orientation, and should be protected from all forms of physical punishment, physical and verbal abuse, and emotional deprivation.

All children are welcome and bring value and uniqueness to our programs. We believe that an inclusive school age program helps build bridges between children with exceptional needs and their typically developing peers. Children learn best when they participate and grow along side others who not only have different abilities, but who are also diverse in their cultural, indigenous, social, familial, spiritual, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds. We strive to ensure that all possible modifications are made to promote the full participation of all children, and to support children in reaching their full potential.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we honour and acknowledge that our programs operate within the traditional territories of the people of Treaty 7, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai), as well as the Tsuu’tina and Îyâxe Nakoda Nations. We also acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
